It’s the final day of May and here I am doing a Saturday post so I can link up with Jenn!

Basically, she gives us four prompts and we fill them in. So fun, right? I will probably be a bit redundant, but it’s also a time for reflection.

I loved

May was a month of a little time off from work with our Derby long weekend, going to my hometown one last time before the estate sale, Mother’s Day, and the end of school with the students.

I really appreciate Tom. He helped me with my mom’s house and worked on the deck. He also did all his normal stuff of yard work, dog entertaining, and the other little things he does. He made me feel special on Mother’s Day, too.

I loved getting through these things this month.

Celebrating:

There was a lot of celebrating! Last day of school with students, a last happy hour, and my department retirement surprise lunch!

I learned

I learned how estate sales work, I learned about the retirement process, and I learned that I should have cleaned out my room better at the end of each school year. I also learned what is important to save.

Went well

I would say the estate sale and the end of the school year with students went well.

Let go of

I let go of some possessions for other people to enjoy. A dear friend will have these piano rolls from our family’s player piano. One of them even has my Dad’s handwriting. I know I can go to her house and see it.

I let go of school stuff for others to use and enjoy.

I let go of school responsibilities and some drama that happened this week.

  1. We had an estate sale also a few months ago for my uncle’s house. I learned a lot (and in the process, I also learned a lot of fun things about my uncle’s life too than I hadn’t know!). Congratulations on your retirement! It looks like you were celebrated well. You had a lot of letting go this month. Visiting from Jenn’s.

    1. Thank you for visiting! I had a difficult relationship with my mom but by going through her things I feel that I got to know some things about her that she didn’t share and I also think it can be an act of love. That is so kind that you helped with your uncle’s estate.

  3. I feel the same way about recap type posts- if you blog at all regularly during the week, it seems like there’s a lot of redundancy. But there’s still some value in reflecting, ruminating on, and fine tuning thoughts of events that are recently in your rear view mirror. Especially if some of the events are fraught with emotion- whether positive or negative. I can imagine thoughts running through your mind right now. Hopefully you’re able to keep the negative ones at bay and concentrate on how every day for the rest of your life will be like summer break (unless you want to change that and do some sort of work)!

  5. I’m sure it was interesting learning how estate sales and retirement work. I would guess that every teacher would say the same thing you just said about getting rid of things at the end of each year. I remember the end of year process, how everything always has to be packed up for the summer, and put back each year. I know you’re so grateful for your sweet husband! The pic of him with EO asleep made me smile. He’s worked hard this month!

  8. May was definitely a month of rollercoaster emotions for you. It’s wonderful to be recognized for the impact you had. My mom had downsized to an apartment about five years before she died. It was hard to go through things with her as she wasn’t sentimental at all. I think you’ve definitely approached this in a very good way. Keep what is truly meaningful, take a photo of something you want to remember, and send the rest on to someone who will love it next.

  10. Congratulations on your retirement! Yes, letting go of stuff and cleaning out at the end of each school year is hard. It’s hard to know what you will and won’t need the next year.
