Are you shopping today? Are you exhausted? Tell me everything!

Let’s discuss some of my favorites from the week – all that took place before Thanksgiving and I will include anything after from Thanksgiving in my Hello Monday!

We had our first snow last Thursday! November 21! You can see the beautiful shape of the snowflakes on my black turtleneck!

Baby’s first snow:

It wasn’t enough for him to make anything of it. He always looks possessed/scared, so don’t make anything of the eyes in the photo.

I can’t believe it but I “decorated” on Sunday. This has made me happy all week so it was the right call!

This is all I did. I still need to do trees.

We had a school Friendsgiving and I made a spice cake from a box mix in my bundt pan. I made a homemade cream cheese cinnamon frosting.

Someone turned 9 months old!

In the world of fashion, this has me pretty excited..

The “Mob Wife” aesthetic is in! Read about it here. I don’t plan on wearing a leopard catsuit, but this will work well with my sequins, velvet, pleather, and faux fur items. Now, there is a fine line between the mob wife trend and tacky city, so I will need to proceed with caution.

The odes we did in my AP class turned out so great and they were all willing to read them aloud to the class. Click on my red font to read the back story and what I think is “ode worthy”.

What I liked about their topics were they were not materialistic. I teach some really nice kids. I am in the largest public high school in my city. Don’t believe everything you hear, ok? I am here to tell you that teens are pretty great!

This one wrote about River Road. This is also my favorite place to drive. You are really, really close to the river on a two lane road. “Where the trees hang low and the old railings have rusted” and “where the houses recede and the city appears” and “the old man fishes” and “the hills hide us”.

this one was about their bed! I think a lot of teens feel the same – “A cloud of blankets, a hill of pillows”, “my bed of hope”…

And we already have a coffee addict on our hands…

“Oh how you smell on a cold day”…

I have a couple of fun things coming up after break – AP writes children’s books and Spanish 3 does demonstration speeches.

So, I started at my school in 2000 with a girl named Ashley- she was 22 and I was 28 and she was our German teacher. I had already taught for 6 years at two other schools and this was her first teaching job. She only stayed a short time because she moved to Cincinnati with her pookie but we remained friends. She is now a lawyer and she was in town for a conference and asked me to meet up Monday night.

We had a great time meeting up at Mojito – our Cuban/Spanish tapas place. I indulged in a swirl margarita because I only had one more day left of school. It’s a frozen margarita with sangria “swirled” in it. OMG! So good!

I had an Amazon gift card from my birthday so I am going to get some more help from Fiona:

She has some good tips about creating the holiday you want to create. I realize what she writes is common sense and I already do quite a bit of it, but for some reason I find these really validating and inspirational.

I wasn’t the only teacher who did thank yous – so sweet!

I was delivering some of mine…

Loving my simple decor in the dark…

I enjoyed my Wednesday off and didn’t run around like a chicken with my head cut off. Tom still had to work. I did go to Trader Joe’s and The Honeybaked Ham store but I enjoyed piddling around the house for most of the day.

What were some of your favorites this week?

Amy

  1. That icing on the cake looks so good! That drink and food look so good too. I am doing mostly online shopping, but will go to a few stores today. I am ready for just some downtime at home. I loved the two odes about the bed and coffee…mainly because I could understand 95% of them!

    1. I think I overdid it on the cinnamon – oh well. Thank you! I am, too. I bet. Today will be our longest day so I am hoping for that tomorrow. And, it’s small biz Saturday.
Yay – I’m glad you could understand them!

  2. Love the topics your students wrote about.

How nice to meet with your former co-worker after all these years and wow – a lawyer now!

We had a great Thanksgiving and I am looking forward to a wonderful weekend!

  3. “She is now a lawyer” >> if that doesn’t tell you everything you need to know, I don’t know what does lol.

Mostly I’ve really enjoyed my whole week off 🙂

  4. The cake looks delish! EO is so handsome. The poems😭how awesome! You are right— teens get a bad wrap. I enjoyed my Wednesday too! It was a slow day. The rest of my break hasn’t been slow 😂

  5. I need to find a replacement cake stand topper! I shattered mine a few months ago, and have been looking ever since. I have a funfetti cake I want to make for my boys, but I don’t have anything to cover it with; I’m thinking I’m going to take a hint from you and do cream cheese frosting and Christmas sprinkles. I love those odes and the one by the river is beautiful! I hope they received bonus points for making it creative. 🤣 Have fun continuing with the celebrating today!

  6. I love the creativity and fun your students brought to that assignment. It seems like you foster a great learning environment.

I’m sure that snow served as motivation for Christmas decorating! It was 80 here in Dallas on Friday! We are finally seeing some temperatures in the 50’s this week.

  7. I’ve not shopped for anything in the Black Friday sales. There’s nothing I really need so I would just be spending for the sake of it.
We had our first snow a couple of weeks ago and it didn’t last long. It was a bit of excitement though.
It does sound like you teach a good bunch of kids and how lovely to catch up with your old workmate.

  8. Yes, I went shopping! Yes, I am exhausted, but it’s more that my husband makes so much noise in the morning when he gets up (like way early gets up), and the kitchen is right off the bedroom…a man had to have planned that! I actually bought quite a few things for Christmas. One of the stores my granddaughter likes was having a true BOGO (buy 1 get 1 free), but the line was about an hour long to check out. I asked if the deal was online, and it was. So, I placed my order to pick it up in the store later this week.

I’m afraid I’m a maximalist when it comes to Christmas decorating. I’m only putting up three trees this year. The fourth takes up too much space for Mike to maneuver around. I don’t know that I’m a minimalist in anything to be quite honest.

You are truly an amazing teacher…those odes are beautiful…I love the River Road one! The full on photo of EO looks like my granddog, Charlie, who is more silver than brown though. And, we are getting that icky snow right now…the drifty kind that ices up the roads. It is also frigid here. Stay warm and enjoy your weekend!
