I always love it when blogger ‘updates” me on situations, favorite products, etc., so that is what I thought I would do today…
My mom –

is doing great! She is still a working artist (former art teacher) and just had her art work chosen to display in my hometown’s downtown area and also had her own gallery art show. She is getting ready to take a trip!
Lume –

So, I bought the Lume starter pack that had the stick deoderant, the cream, the wipes, and a small cream. The smells were simply horrible – toasted coconut, tangerine, and baby powder. The worst was baby powder. Every time I put it on my pits I felt like I had just changed a diaper. But, it worked. I then went to Target after I ran out and bought the above unscented for not a low, low price. This small tube costs $15. Either the Target formula is different or it no longer works on my body, or the summer is no match for it. I smelled horrible so I am back to Secret Invisible where you twist and the deoderant comes up in the little holes. Erica feels the same about Lume not working for her anymore, either.
TikTok – I took a break from Tik Tok videos (making my own Spanish instruction videos in a very amateur way) over the summer. I had a good-bye for now video recorded but my mom had the stroke and then it seemed like I had waited too long. I did make my first Tik Tok money over the summer based on views. I made $55! I really don’t know what I will do with it this year. Part of me thinks I have used up my best material.
Mason – Mason went and helped his now four year roomie Jakob move in Sunday. Mason will join him in the spring and had many of their shared items housed at our house. They have a private bathroom in the senior dorm! Mason is working a few more shifts but then taking about two weeks off before England in mid-September. He is doing fall semester in the north of England.
Jack – started moving into his solo room in the same senior dorm with private bathroom last night. Mason helped him and had asked off work to do so. I suspect Jack will be sleeping at home (on the weekends) more than normal to spend time with Mason before England.
German Cousins – Tom’s cousin, Tom’s cousin’s wife, and their middle son are arriving Monday afternoon. I will be at work until 4:00 so I thought I would have a pasta bake ready to put in the oven and serve bread and salad. Any other ideas? I also might have a small charcuterie ready if they are starving immediately after traveling. They will be traveling from Boston after spending a few days there, so they aren’t fresh off the plan from Germany. I have to be honest that I am sad that I have to work and can’t get home earlier, but I am taking one day off. I have had it planned since well before August 9th and I had to tell myself that it isn’t my fault that the school district wasn’t able to make school happen.
Groceries – This month has been an experiment with shopping at Kroger, Aldi, Trader Joe’s, and even Walmart for a few things. I am at around $700 for the month here on the 23rd.
School –

I forgot to get an outfit pic, but this is my face during my planning period. Yes, we got to start on Monday! It was such a good day and honestly, I felt like myself (my teacher self) again. The first day of school on August 9th really wrecked me, but I felt like I actually had energy after school Monday! I think the kids were glad to be back! I started my routine and taught new content. Now I have to learn 150 first names, last names, and Spanish names but I should have that soon!
What updates big or small do you have?
Amy
Wow! Those are great updates. I’m so glad your mom is doing well and your first day, take 2, was good. I am excited for Mason’s study abroad semester. Have fun with the German cousins!

I couldn’t get past the smell of most of the Lume products I tried either and didn’t feel they worked as well as some of the other natural deodorants I’ve tried; though I do use Secret for hot summer days or when we’re going hiking. I am so glad to hear your mom is still doing well! I hope you have lots of fun with the German cousins and that both boys have a wonderful school year. So glad that your back to school take 2 seems to be sticking and all the bus kinks are hopefully ironed out!

I’m so glad your mom is doing well! Mason is quite the dorm helper. I bet it will be so odd for your two to be apart but what a neat experience for Mason. You deserve a day off with the cousins!

I loved all of these updates! I also like this question at the end, but the only thing I can think of is my job. I attended my first staff meeting on Monday, and I am now a paid employee of our church. I was also given the keys (literally and figuratively) to the bookstore, so I’m officially in charge of it now. My friend who ran it before me is still with me and teaching me all the things. I didn’t take into account that I’m running a store- so I have lots of financial things to learn still, but I know Kelly will help me, along with our financial staff person on staff. They all know and understand that I have lots to learn. I still love working there!

What a great post! Aren’t you having another bathroom in your house redone? Did I miss the post on that? I’m so glad this “1st” week of school is going better and you’re feeling good about it! Nice catching up with you. 🙂

Your mom looks great! So glad she is doing all the things she loves! Updates – we got rain yesterday in San Antonio thanks to tropical storm Harold!! We had temps in upper 80’s yesterday and today should be below 100. My oldest child is 24 today!! He’s celebrating with a Boston cream donut and PSL from Dunkin Donuts that I got up early to get him. 😊

A lot of good news, thanks for sharing! How cool to have an arts teacher as a mum! I’m so not artsy so I find it very inspiring. And her own show! So cool!
It’s fun to be back with students, right! I have one period with 4th graders in English! So cute! And immensely good at English, it’s crazy! The world is really global today!

I’m glad you had a good second back-to-school day! My update is that I like teaching HS so far! I have 3 9th grade reading classes and two 10th grade reading classes. I feel so much happier, more energetic and less beaten down at the end of the day! Fewer immature behaviors – no odd noises or drama compared to MS! No emails from parents! I have a friend who also teaches reading at the same HS, and it’s a really friendly department overall! So glad I took the leap!

I’m so glad your second first day of school went well. You already had the yucky first first day of school over with…there’s that silver lining! I have read many people have the same problem with Lume not working after a time. I just stick with my good old…um…whatever it is! But, I do dislike heavily scented deodorant. Who wants their pits to smell like flowers?
Nothing big is going on here other than the excessive heat…it’s all anyone is talking about. We’re probably going to be breaking some records.
Have a wonderful end of the week and weekend!

So glad to hear that your Mom is doing so well and that Monday went well, that is a great photo of you! The pasta and salad sounds like a perfect comfort meal after a day of travel, it’s a lot to have guests and working at the same time and they will surely appreciate it! I think Mason’s time in England will go by quickly, you know how fast the holidays come after Labor Day. As for updates, we had a big monsoonal storm last week which signals to me that the end of the high temps is in sight ( Octoberish). Yay!

our besties got covid last week and now Taylor and her boyfriend have it! Apparently it is running rampant thru our area. Schools and offices are all coming down with it. Someone at golf today mentioned they are trying to bring the mask mandate back — OH NO THEY ARE NOT. What a joke THAT was. Can. you even imagine? Also Hurricane Hillary came in and thru California and we got alot of rain but nothing bad happened here. And there was an earthquake the same day down in LA….I think God is really made at our country and all the idiots running it. Just my opinion but show me the lie. LOL

That is exciting about the German cousins. I am from Germany myself (living in the US now) and when I have visitors from Germany, they often request a typical American meal. I always cook a Thanksgiving meal for my German company, no matter what time of the year they visit. They love turkey with all the fixings, as well as apple pie and pumpkin pie. Another idea is to do a typical American barbecue, with baked beans, coleslaw, S’mores, rootbeer/coke floats etc. Or do some sloppy joes, with side dishes and brownies a la mode. Let me know if you need more ideas. Enjoy!
