Well, no offense to my dear readers, but I am not especially excited to be marking the last Wednesday in July!
I will set up my classroom one day next week (we can pick any day and get paid so I will probably pick a rainy day – ha!) Then, I am back full time Monday, August 7th. We have two days for teachers and then the kids come August 9th. So.darn.early. In fact, I can’t remember starting this early in August. So, for the rest of my “free days” I am going to try to summer the heck out of them along with checking off some of my to do list items. One of those is to stock up on easy meal ingredients from Costco!
I am linking up with Sheaffer and Shay to fill in most of their prompts!

What We’re Eating…
Well, I kind of lost my dinner making mojo. Here is what is on my list for the week, though, in case it gives you any ideas: BLTs, burrito bowls, bacon tomato pasta, and still going to Slender Kitchen for inspo. I feel like I’m in a rut and just making the same things over and over.
For breakfast, I love AmyLu chicken sausage, veggies, and egg for breakfast and this really keeps me filled up for a long time.

I’ve been playing with ham, cheese, and fig jam on Crescent Roll dough and puff pastry and in grilled cheese form.

And, such an easy recipe – from our French dinner – Take one thin chicken breast and spread Boursin cheese on it and roll it in bacon and bake at 350 for about 20 minutes.

Anyway, I’m trying to use the things we have and make some decent meals for four most nights. I am doing really well with food waste (reducing it!) so that is great! My friend thinks food prices are going down, but I disagree. What do you all think where you live?
What I’m Loving…
Of course, I love having my kids home from college!
I love all the summer things!
I love this purse strap and put it on my cream purse and like how it looks. I am trying to replace my cognac bag with possible gold but I want light gold.

I bought some small hoops that are really nice!

I had my now annual Omni Hotel rooftop pool day Monday!

Outdoor concerts!

What I’ve been up to…
Summering! Relaxing! Reading!

I froze my Sun Tan City membership and this is me doing my own legs with a mousse self-tanner I had – not too bad!

What I’m Dreading…

This is me last year during the two teacher days where we have all.the.meetings, all the training videos, and all the things that we really need to do to get ready for kids. I found this in my camera roll – I think I sent it to Tom!
What I’m Working on…

Cleaning and purging!
What I’m Excited about…

We are not going to Germany, but Germany is coming to us! Tom’s German cousins are coming next month.
What I’m Watching/Reading…

I am reading this – I’ve just barely started. I am watching Bravo Real Housewives of NY and Below Deck the most!
What I’m listening to…
Right now, Mason’s clothes in the dryer. But, I absolutely love hearing my kids laugh together. They have the most special bond. They have never been apart for 3 months before. Mason will be in England and Jack will be on campus and I do worry. I hope they can regularly Facetime and stay connected with technology. I know my other twin moms out there get it.
What I’m Wearing…
I wore my fancy muumuu to the rooftop pool!

I wore my Old Navy dress to the art museum on Sunday!

Lots of pink!

My Barbie tee!

What I’m doing this Weekend…
Come back for Hello Monday!
What I’m looking forward to next month…
Meeting my new students, German visitors, and the start of Jack’s senior year (Mason has an extra month of summer!)!
What’s up with you on this Wednesday?
Amy
I do not feel like food prices are coming down at all; this past month I unknowingly used the same credit card only for groceries and I was so bummed to get that bill in! I even sent my husband a text asking if he had any suggestions to help lower it (his very unhelpful suggestions was to kick the kids out! LOL). I hope you have a fabulous end of summer!!

Me either! Glad I’m not the only one. I think maybe eggs have, but nothing else. I would love to know your total because you eat at home as much as we do or more. I’m nosy like that! I am achieving a better total this month than I did last month.

I am so hesitant to type this… we spent around 1,200 on groceries last month! It’s crazy; I can remember when I used to spend $200 on a high week and now I’m happy if it’s under $300 on a low need/meat free week.

I spent more than that!

Well, now I don’t feel so bad adding that we were on vacation 1 week where my mother in law bought groceries while she was with us so if we had been home my total would have been higher too! LOL

I looked up the average for a family of four in 2023 and I think you will be surprised when I share it tomorrow.

Teachers in our area start back next week too and have 5 work days before kids start. Even though I work all year, I hate when summer break ends. I really enjoy the relaxed feel in the community, less traffic, etc. If summer cannot be longer then I want weekends to all be 3 days. I feel pretty certain I could run for POTUS on that platform and get some votes – ha!!!
I hope you enjoy your last few days and at least you have some fun things to look forward to – I think that helps ease the sting of the end of summer break!

Ugh – 5 days? That sounds horrible! But, we have to basically do 2 days on our own and we can choose what we do so I have already done one of those.
You definitely could! 3 day weekends for all!

Oh love I’m sorry break is coming to an end. You look so extra happy and relaxed this summer. And rocking that pretty muumuu. Heading to see Barbie Friday. I hope it’s as good as people are saying. Cousins coming from Germany will be so fun.

It’s ok! There are good things, too. I want to know what you think of Barbie!

I loved this! The twin bond is no joke, You know that Noah was involved in a terrible accident on Monday while he was in Dallas and coming back home. He’s okay, but he was rear-ended by an 18 wheeler, and his car is totaled. Thank the Lord that he and his friend are fine, though! Cars are replaceable. Anyway, when Todd told Jonah, all he said to him (Jonah) was, “I’m going to Dallas. Noah was hit by an 18 wheeler…” and as an afterthought he added that he was okay. Jonah almost got sick and immediately burst into tears. He said later on that he felt like he was about to pass out…which is also what happened to them as young boys when Noah was struck by a car as he crossed the street. Jonah passed out right after it happened, because he thought he’d been killed.
Isn’t that crazy? So yes, as a mom to four sons who are all VERY close as brothers and friends, even so- the relationships don’t hold a candle to the bond Jonah and Noah have. I get your anxiety over this and having your boys separated for three months. I pray they are able to use technology like you said, and that they can stay connected that way.
On a lighter note, I love your fancy muumuu and that rooftop pool!

I knew you would understand! I can’t imagine how yours felt in those two different incidents.
I hope it will be a time of growth for both of them in different ways.
Thank you!

Well I am wishing you all of the summer goodness that you have left…I know you will live it up and enjoy every day! Love all of your bright and summery outfits- they make me smile!

Thank you! I will try! But, I also want to feel decluttered and organized! Thank you – me too! My fall and winter look drab in comparison!

Y’all start back so early! My family in Mississippi start back on that same day. Yikes! I don’t believe food prices are coming down either. The gauge is what I am spending each week now vs. what I used to spend a couple of years ago plus milk and egg prices. I had cousins visit from Switzerland, years ago, and they spoke only a little English and we spoke only a little German. We had such a good time with them! Enjoy these last weeks. I love your pool outfit!

Yes we do! And, that is our hottest time of the year! Nope – they really aren’t. Maybe eggs have! Our Germans speak really decent English and that’s good because we don’t speak German! Thank you!

My heart sank a little bit for you as your sons will be so far away for a few months. What a time of growth this will be for them both and what a fun reunion it will be at the end of the semester….just in time for the holiday season!
I hope you fit in all the things before going back to school. I am going to try that chicken and bacon recipe. Sounds like a delicious, quick meal!

I know you can relate. It will be and I know it needs to happen, too.
Thank you so much. I hope you like that recipe!

That really will be a time of growth for the boys, and they will probably come back together with a bond stronger than ever. My kids are not twins, but at only 18 months apart they are very close. I think the time away with college has brought them closer. Love seeing all your summer fun, and can’t believe how early y’all are going back!

I know but I am also scared. There is nothing better than your kids being close!

Yes, why is summer going so quickly?!?!?! I will be thinking of you as you head back. I love all your summery looks. I am so boring and you inspire me to add more colour to my clothes. Also, I added BLTs to our menu plan so thank you!

I don’t know! Thank you so much! You are too kind to say that. Ha – you should see my fall and winter clothes, though. I need more color there.
Yay – such a good dinner and I sometimes forget about it as an option.

It seems like the only thing that has gone down at the grocery store is eggs. The sourdough bread I buy was $3.49 or so before Covid. It’s now $5.49. I spend so much each week and get so little! And, there are only two of us. I don’t understand how families afford groceries these days.
Ugh…I recognized that face because it was the one I used to make at all those interminable meetings when you just want to get back to your classroom and work. But, I don’t know which was worse…the first and last days meetings or the every Wednesday morning meeting. Schools go back around here next week which is a week later than usual. They have a balanced calendar which is a fancy way of saying they go back earlier, have two weeks off in the fall, two weeks at Christmas and two weeks for spring break. They end a skosh earlier than other schools sometimes.

I agree! Thank you!
I think my sister has a balanced calendar or at least similar to that. She starts July 31 and is in the Plainfield, Indiana district.
I am not sure I would like that, but guess what? I don’t have to worry about it too much longer!

August 7th is SO early. No wonder you are trying to make the most of summer. Teachers start here on the 16th. Kids come the 23rd.

And, remember my summer didn’t start until June 3! Yeah, I’m a little salty! Ha! Those dates sound much more reasonable.

Just scrolling the WordPress App and realized I missed this post! Glad I caught it because it’s so fun. Your summer style is so fun – love all the bright colors. The Omni rooftop pool looks amazing. We go back on the 7th and the kids don’t start until the following Wednesday. I guess we have four days of pd this year – rather than flex days. I’m annoyed. Can’t wait to read about your German visitors!

Thank you! I have noticed you must be reading some blog posts at night lately – stalker much? – as my kids would say. So, I have already worked 12 hours of PD at home and then we have the 7th and 8th with teachers and kids come on the 9th. I think you mean that your kids come on the 16th? That is much more reasonable. But, we do get to pick a day next week to do room set up for an extra day pay. I think I am going to pick Thursday so I can keep summering until then. And, Friday will be a something fun day I hope.

Haha yes! Sometimes I read on the app at night before bed lol
Kids usually start the 2nd Wed but they only bumped it this year, so teacher have all these PD days. We’ve never done this before. I’m annoyed. I much prefer to pick and choose and knock things out in the summer. We get paid for a classroom day too…the floors in my area still aren’t ready 😵💫
