Cicadas – They really weren’t bad in my neck of the woods. I did hear how loud they were on the drive from my house to the river where we keep our boat. Wow! They sounded like a million weed eaters going all at once. Our neighbor uses their weed eater or leaf blower every time I sit outside so I was kind of hoping they would respond to the mating call and swarm said neighbor. Was that mean? Trust me, you have never heard such loud power equipment. I think this person goes to Home Depot and says, “Give me the loudest you’ve got”. What about in your area? Are they bad?

College Kids Home -I will sum it up in one sentence: I have zero iphone chargers. What do they do with their chargers? Don’t worry; I have just placed an order for 5 more. I will be threatening anyone who touches mine and I will be labeling it to death. Is that a problem in your home? By the way, sorry I talked about cicadas before I talked about my children. But, seriously, I LOVE having them home. I am so happy. August will be hard again. I guess there will always be a period of adjustment as they leave and come back.

TV – How many streaming services do we really need? It’s getting crazy. We have YouTube TV, Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video – I think that’s it. I bet some people have way more than that. I can’t find much I want to watch, though. I feel like they (tv people) are churning out shows and movies as fast as they can, but let’s just say maybe they should slow down a bit and focus on quality and not quantity? What are you watching? How many services do you have?

Movie Theater – I may be the only one here, but I will gladly pay to go see a movie at the theater for the experience. I am not interested in paying $15-20 to stream a movie and sit in my house. I don’t have that buttery popcorn, you know? Anyone else? My family loves the theater. We even love the previews. Tom and I missed the movies so much over the pandemic.

House Cleaning – As much as I would love to have someone come clean, it feels super awkward to me. I have had someone come three times in my whole life and it was uncomfortable and the house was not clean for long. I should say we are tidy and keep things straightened, but the deep cleaning is what I find harder. I found myself thinking: What do I do? Do I watch? Do I sit on the couch and eat bonbons? Do I help? Plus, you have to do all of the pre-cleaning, right? So, for now I am my cleaner. And, believe me, my cleaner(me) should be fired! I am asking the boys to help and Mason actually likes cleaning. I think it’s important to teach them how to care for a home. Plus, over a year, that is a lot of money. I need a system or a cleaning plan. Anyone have one? I actually like to watch cleaning videos on YouTube!

Well, my coffee’s gone now. Thanks for listening! Leave me a comment and it’s ok if you disagree!

  1. I just love your topics! And I look forward to see what other people are answering!
Cicadas: I can’t hear our Swedish small cicadas any more, their pitch is so high… But I hear the neighbors’ lawn mowers, chain saws and leaf blowers! It’s not that bad though, there are mostly forest here, not that many lawns…
Both daughters are coming out to the cabin today! I haven’t seen soldier girl for over two months! I guess there will be some adjustments… but hopefully the summer period will make it easier…
For TV we have a network service (with some films and series) and Netflix of course. In America we have hooked up on XFinity for wifi and tv, I don’t know how we’ll do it next year, the systems seem to change all the time?

    1. Thank you so much T-T! That is wonderful that you can’t hear them. Have you heard about our year for Brood X cicadas? Yay for the daughters! Try to be chill mom, o.k.! Not too many questions! Ha! I bet you are the coolest. Yes, the services change all of the time. I miss my ATT Uverse to be honest, but ATT had the worst customer service. Oh well.

  2. You crack me up! I was always annoyed at my neighbor and his leaf blower, but Bob bought a leaf blower last year, and now he is that person. Blowing leaves and other debris makes him so happy, so I just deal with it. 😀I had some chargers disappear this summer, too! So much to relate to here. As for cleaning, we actually had a house cleaner before we had kids. What were thinking? Anyway, they never did the work like I could, and I was never very satisfied. I LOVE to clean – it is almost meditative to me…and I would be glad to share some of my secrets sometime. Many of my friends poke fun at me for having a “too clean” house. 😀

  3. I know what you mean about neighbors and their lawn equipment! My neighbor has an extremely loud blower, and what’s worse, he blows everything towards our privacy fence and all of his debris goes under the fence and lands in our little pond which is right next to the fence. GRRRRR! I didn’t make a physical trip to Tunies, I was just shopping their website. Is the selection better in store? I ended up winning the ebay auction for $22.00 plus shipping cost of $7.00. Woo-hoo! Not bad for a NWT top! Can’t wait to get it!

    1. It’s the worst isn’t it? Your issue sounds even worse than mine! Ugh! I wonder if you could say, “You may not know this but my pond is right where you are blowing”. Would that go over well? Lol? Maybe with some cinnamon rolls? Ha!
I think the selection may be better in the store. I have looked at their website and I follow on Instagram. I think you should go in, because they have a couple of sale areas, too. You got a deal!

  4. I just love your blog! 😊 We have Netflix (free through our cell plan), Hulu Live (husband likes the soccer games) and Amazon Prime. We don’t pay for cable, but we have an antenna which picks up local channels and a few others. I enjoy going to the movie, too! We recently saw ‘A Quiet Place II’. It was great and so was the popcorn. 😉

I always clean my own house! Now that we don’t have any kids living at home my routine has changed. My big cleaning day is Thursday (I clean the entire house) and then throughout the week just keep up with laundry and dishes.

    1. You are too kind, Michelle! I was too scared to see that movie! I will see action and sci-fi but my favorite it comedy.
I like the thought of going into the weekend with a clean house. I did Fridays while virtual teaching because my last class was over at 1:30. I don’t even have a big house, I just need a routine!

  5. We have the same streaming services you do. I find myself watch Grey’s Anatomy over and over. With Lucifer and Outlander thrown in once in a while.

  6. I love your coffee talk topics 🙂 I haven’t heard any cicadas in our neck of the woods. We have Hulu, netflix, Amazon, Disney + and I think that’s it (besides my month of HBO 😂). We do have a house cleaner, and I love it. She comes when we are at school, so we aren’t in the way. Obviously, in the summer we are around but I make sure to make that a pool day. She’s become a friend through the years so I chat with her but always tell her I want to get out of her way. 😂 and my people take all the chargers as well which drives me crazy

    1. Thanks! I hope I didn’t seem catty! I bet you use Disney + a lot! I think if I had an established cleaner that I trusted to come when I wasn’t home it would be magical. Maybe one day!

  7. I am the same way about having a house cleaner. And the movies! We are so happy to be going back to the movies now. We liked In the Heights, and can’t wait to go back to the theater when something good comes along. We have quite a few streaming services, but will be slimming them down this year. Apple+ came with a laptop purchase for one year, but we will discontinue that. I bought 1 year of Disney, but we just don’t use it enough. We “share” quite a few services with my aunt as well. Hope you have a great day!

    1. Yes on both! The issue is now that there aren’t that many movies out, right? All of the streaming services overwhelm me, really! I mostly watch Youtube tv and Netflix.

  8. When I married my husband, he was a single dad of a teenager and had house cleaners come every other week. When he asked if he should keep them I jumped on that because at that time we were both working 40+ hours with commute time and I didn’t want to spend one weekend day cleaning. Ever since then we’ve had an every other week crew and I love it. I definitely have to pick up clutter before they come and that keeps me mindful of collecting too much “stuff”. On streaming we’ve had netflix and amazon for a while and just added apple to watch Ted Lasso, worth it! We’ve gone to the movies to see Cruella and Here Today, so happy to go back and the theater was still pretty empty, I hope they can bounce back because I am with you on paying $20 to watch it at home!
Okay, I’ve finished my coffee too, have a great day.

    1. You may me want to get a cleaning service! I would prefer to not be here, but I am also scared of that! I really want to watch Ted Lasso. I’ve heard great things. I like that you stayed with my post until your coffee was gone – ha! Yes, I am hoping for good movies soon, too!

  9. I’ve seen one cicada and it was in West Virginia last weekend. I heard them there too, but I haven’t seen any in the midwest!

I like the movie theater (haven’t been since 2018?) but I can’t believe people pay $20 to stream a “new” movie in their living room.
We pay for Netflix and Hulu and probably Disney. Not Youtube. Prime just comes along with Amazon Prime anyway so it’s a sunk cost.

  10. We have the same streaming services as you. I always want to add more but I don’t want the streaming bill to get as high as our DirecTV bill was. I will go without something to have my house cleaned every week! It is the best gift I can give to myself. I have always left the house when they come to clean, usually it is during a work day. I absolutely hate to waste a whole day of the weekend cleaning. I do not like the idea of a cleaning schedule where you clean a little each day(Monday floors, Tuesday dust, etc.). I like it all clean at once. Although, I do spot clean all week. Vacuum every day, clean the bathrooms once myself during the week, mop a few times, etc…

    1. Same here on the tv! I think I would like it if I established a cleaner and could leave. It would be magical to
Come home to it clean. The rate for cleaning here is steep and I just can’t justify 200-400 a month when we have 2 college payments right now. I agree that cleaning daily seems worse. Your house sounds super clean! My house is tidy but I want to dust, mop, etc. more frequently. The best cleaner in my family is Tom but he is the busiest right now!

  11. I promise I am not a stalker. I just recently discovered your blog and have had a wonderful time reading back through the archives. I do not have anyone come and clean my house. I work full time and so does my husband. It would probably be easier if we did have someone come in regularly but I just can’t seem to do it. We do keep our house reasonably clean so I guess that is enough for us. Love your blog and am enjoying reading your posts.

    1. I don’t think that at all! It has been a long time, but I loved when I found a new to me blog and I did a deep dive. It’s so fun. Blogs are disappointing me lately – lol! I would like to get on a good cleaning routine. I like the idea of having it clean for the weekend so I can relax. I did this last year while virtual and it was so nice. Happy 2022! Glad you are here!
