I am participating in a fun link up with some ladies right here!

You respond to the prompts they give you so here we go…

What We’re Eating

Last night was Taco Tuesday. I served them with leftover rice and a Trader Joe’s southwestern salad mix that I got a week ago.

Monday night we had a craving for pizza. We did a local carryout and it felt good to get in my car and drive to go get it. I hadn’t gone anywhere since the grocery Saturday morning. This is local Diorio’s Pizza.

What I’m Reminiscing About

The Facebook reminders are bittersweet right now for two reasons – I am nostalgic for the days when my boys were young and because it is a reminder of when life was normal.

All kinds of academic team photos have been popping up. Both of my boys did this from 4th grade – 8th grade, then only Jack did it 9th grade and this year only Mason did it. Quick Recall team will always hold a special place in my heart. Look at those sweet young faces!

What I’m loving

Ahhh… having the washer and dryer off of the kitchen will be a game changer! Before I had to go down to the basement to do laundry. And, moms of young kids, guess what happened yesterday? Mason brought his own hamper to the laundry room and simply did his own laundry. I didn’t say a word, he didn’t ask me anything, and it was a beautiful thing. I was wondering when he would think his hamper was too full.

What we have been up to

We have made use of the time at home and set up our new master bedroom and set up the mudroom. We have watched at least one show a day together. The boys have mostly worn pajamas.

What I am dreading

I am dreading having to do this for too long.

What I’m working on

I am working on a plan for teaching online. We think we will be given autonomy to decide what is best for our classes. We also have to work together with our departments to make some decisions. We start April 6 for teachers and April 7 for students.

What I’m excited about

I am excited to use my bike. I dusted her off and put air in her tires. This was an anniversary gift for maybe our 5th year of marriage? You know, the traditional five year anniversary gift of a Schwinn? I used to ride my bike to school.

What I’m watching

I really haven’t been watching much t.v. I watch our governor at 5 p.m. and I watch some Bravo shows in the evenings. I watch one show as a family. On Bravo, I’m watching Family Karma, Below Deck, and Summer House, and I’m excited for Real Housewives of NY to come back soon!

What I’m reading

I am really sad about no library. I had so many books on hold that I was going to get for spring break! My son and I placed an order from our local Carmichael’s bookstore and we picked up some books for his Women in Lit class and I picked up a cute book called Don’t You Forget About Me by Mhairi McFarlane. I can’t remember who recommended it. I need funny right now!

What I’m listening to

I am listening to my podcasts when I walk. I need to listen to more music and less news.

What I’m wearing

Nothing cute! I did get dressed Monday and felt like a human! I have been wearing leggings most days. It has been pretty chilly for much of the day.

What I’m doing this weekend

I have no idea. I would like to do another Zoom game night.

What I’m looking forward to

I am excited about these warmer temps.

What else is new

My husband wants me to research cutting the cable and switching to a streaming service. We have ATT Uverse right now plus we pay for Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu and that adds up to a lot. I have to have a DVR – seriously my fave invention! And, we need ESPN, Fox Sports, Bravo, Food Network, Discovery, and HGTV. Anyone been through this process?

Both boys are deciding between two colleges. I am anxious for them to make their decisions but I don’t want to stress them out. They may pick the same but I want them to make that decision independently and they would have different roommates.

Tonight or tomorrow night we are supporting our local German restaurant! We are trying to do local takeout 2-3 times a week.

What’s up with you? Leave me a comment for one of these categories and any advice about cutting cable is much appreciated!

Stay well,

Amy

  1. We haven’t yet ordered take out but we will, I have been enjoying cooking but I do want to support local businesses. Thanks for the nudge!
I’m excited to hear about your boys deciding on schools! My work has been busy, my website is down – what a week!

    1. Wow – you have been cooking for many days straight! Hub and I are having fun listing the take out meals we want to get – our main form of entertainment. I almost think this weird time period is making it harder to choose their colleges!
I miss your blog! Tell us your meals when you come back!

  2. Hi,

We switched to YouTube TV and an ESPN subscription and we haven’t looked back. I would encourage you to go for it. We’re very happy with the channels available and performance of both services.

  3. I love your WUW post! I brushed the dust off my bike too. It’s been a good activity for me to do with my kids in the afternoons. I’ve been thinking of the seniors and parents of seniors…so many big milestones 😭
Also- jealous of that mud room (& kids who do their own laundry!) 🙂

    1. Thank you! I am nostalgic for kids who would do activities with me! It’s just so sad for my boys and my senior students – some who I have known since kindergarten!
The mudroom will hopefully have cabinets and storage eventually but it’s already such an improvement. Just so you aren’t too jealous – he didn’t fold his clothes; they are crumpled in a basket but at least they are clean! I did ask if he needs a folding tutorial and I got crickets in response!

  4. Also – we cut cable about 1 1/2 years ago. I loved DVR too but with the Hulu we have , I can still add show to “my stuff” and have kept up with most shows I used to watch. Of course, the Hulu price is starting to creep up…

      1. Hulu, netflix, amazon prime . But Hulu is where I get most of my shows —CBS, ABC, etc. For example, I used to turn on hallmark channel and watch Golden Girls (my fave!) and hallmark isn’t an option but if I search Golden Girls, all the season are there. For things like Hallmark movies, again, not necessarily the same, but Hulu will have a section of holiday movies and I’d pick and choose from there

  5. Hi,

I read your posts everyday but have never left a comment! You remind me so much of one of my favorites teachers in high school!

I love Bravo and have also got rid of cable! We have Sling and I signed back up for Hulu on Black Friday when it was $1.99! We have prime but just got rid of Netflix. We watch live TV on Sling and then all of my Bravo and then can get all of our other shows on Hulu.

    1. Emma, that was a sweet comment! I miss my students so much! I will have to look into Sling. All of these streaming services make my head swim! I use Netflix the most but I could adapt I’m sure. Do you listen to Watch what crappens podcast? If you love Bravo you should!
Stay well and thanks for your first comment! That was really sweet!

  6. I have been cooking a lot, but that take out idea sounds great. We did order pizza this week, which was a nice change. We cut cable a few years ago. The main thing that can be tough is making sure my husband can get all of the football games he wants. Sling is a nice option that includes ESPN for about $20/month. We also have a digital antenna that allows us to watch local channels live. Our daughter is finding out about last few admissions decisions this week, so we hope to figure out that college decision soon!

  7. I just “cut the cord” last month. We finally got internet service that would support streaming. We have YouTubeTV and LOVE it! I especially love it because we can watch local news/weather. We also have Netflix and Amazon Prime. I am also super jealous of your mudroom. The only thing that I wish different about my house!

  8. Isn’t it great when kids do their own laundry?! Our laundry room is upstairs right near all our bedrooms and as we sat down today to start school I heard the washer going and asked who was doing laundry… turns out my son started his.

    1. Thank you! It’s been a long wait!
You go! I am worried we will lose take out as an option before all said and done! I’m cooking 3 nights, take out next night, something like that!

  9. I’m catching up on my WUW reading a little late. I have no advice about cutting cable as we don’t have a TV and have never really streamed much of anything. A friend lets us use their account for watching baseball games about once or twice a week. With this new reality we did sign up for Disney+ but I see it as a temporary measure to help us get through quarantine.

And we stocked up on library books before they closed but I haven’t had the focus to really read much of anything with substance which makes me really sad 😦

    1. I have heard Disney + is great but we already have more than enough!
I’m the same on reading. I’m having a hard time quieting my mind to really get into a book. Maybe I just haven’t found the right book! Take care!
