I don’t think I tried to make French toast until a few years ago. Recently one of my sons has fallen in love with it so I like to make it for him once a week or so.
Are you a fan? Are you ready to hear my secret? The secret is in the bread you use. I discovered the Trader Joe’s brioche (a very buttery French bread) but my Kroger also carries a loaf of brioche in the deli so I think all should be able to find it.
For 2-3 slices (double if making more and you can keep it warm in a low temp oven set at 250):
crack one egg into a shallow dish that will allow you to fit your bread in it
Add a sprinkle of cinnamon
Add a cap full of vanilla (I plan to add bourbon to this in the fall or find a vanilla bourbon!)
Pour about 1/2 cup of milk in
Using a fork, break the yolk and mix the mixture well
Heat your pan to medium low and add non stick spray and a pat of butter.
Dunk one piece of bread at a time and flip over on both sides to saturate.
Heat in your pan until golden brown on one side and then flip and do the other side.
Repeat.
Let me know if you try it!

Looks delicious! I agree – it’s all about the bread!

I love french toast but rarely eat it. It’s easier to make a healthier version of pancakes so I usually go that route.
I had a babysitter who used to make the best french toast. I, to this day, can’t replicate it.

If you ever want to indulge try brioche! It also makes decadent grilled cheese! Pancakes are easier to make healthy!
