Let’s talk about summer makeup!  I have given my face a much needed break this summer and can count on two hands and maybe one foot the number of times I’ve even bothered putting on my “face” since school let out.

Disclaimer:  I’m not great at makeup and I’m trying to use up all the little things that I got in almost a year of Ipsy bags (Ipsy is a monthly subscription where you receive a makeup pouch with 5 items – I think it’s a great deal but I had too many pouches and wanted to use up what I had already gotten so I canceled.)

My current products- I pulled out all of the stops and used everything.  I don’t always do this, but I did it for our purposes today.  I don’t know if would recommend them all, but please ask if you have a specific question.  Like I said, I’m trying to use up products and pare down after my Ipsy subscription accumulation.

I started with Trader Joe’s moisturizer, followed by Pore Professional (Ipsy) which is really great if you have big pores, then I did Dr. Brand’ts undereye (Ipsy), then Cover Girl under eye concealer on the far right (looks like a lipstick), then I did Cover Girl matte (love it), Charlotte Tilbury foundation, Cover Girl pressed powder, Tarte blush (Ipsy), lined brows with Brow Benefit, Cover Girl eyeshadow, liner from Estee Lauder free palette, mascara primer, mascara in the little blue tube (Ipsy), bronzer, highlighter, lipliner, Revlon lipstick, NYX gloss.  img_8012.jpg

This took me:

I didn’t rush and I kind of took my sweet time.

Slightly more socially acceptable?  The photo quality isn’t great – maybe the humidity in the bathroom?

What products can you recommend? Is there something you just wouldn’t want to live without?

  1. Taking pictures indoors is so hard! Natural lighting is best but sometimes hard to fins. You have nice skin Amy! I try to go make up free at least one day a week but I really enjoy putting it on. It doesn’t take long and I enjoy it!
I haven’t tried Charlotte Tilbury foundation yet but I do like her flawless filter!

    1. I have no window in that bathroom so I’m excited for my new bathroom that is still months away, too. Thank you but I don’t think I do have good skin. I enjoy putting it on, too. I have not tried flawless filter but I bet it’s good! I love to try new things and my secret is to buy the small containers near the check out at Ulta and Sephora because they are the perfect size to try things – if you can find the product you want. The Urban Decay eyeshadow primer is excellent but I ran out and didn’t replace.
      Have a great day!

  2. What a fun experiment! Just take it all out and put it all on! Love it! Your eye makeup is very pretty. I have never been good at makeup, and I tend to use the same things over and over. I especially have never done much with my eyes. Usually, I just use some eyeliner and mascara. I did purchase, recently, a product from Lancome to up the eye game, and I really like it. I have been using the Bronze color, and it is really pretty with brown eyes. You do have to use some kind primer on the eyelids, though, to get it smooth out well. That’s my two cents worth. 🙂

    1. Thank you! You should try the Urban Decay eyeshadow primer. You can get a small tube at the checkout area at Ulta I think. It really works! You look great without much makeup but I would love to see your new eye makeup game! Another thing I love is the mascara primer Maybelline lash paradise – it goes on white and makes your mascara stick!

  3. I love Ipsy so much! Especially since they’ve fine-tuned personal preferences. I rarely get duds anymore.

One of my favorite Ipsy finds…meaning I loved it so much, I bought a full-size through them (as I can’t seem to find another retailer that carries it)… is Yensa Tone Up Primer Essential Glow. I’ll use it all over my face only when it’s cooler, but ALWAYS under my eyes. It adds extra moisture and really helps concealer stay all day. LOVE this stuff!

I think I’ve mentioned this one before, but I will mention it again: Physician’s Formula The Healthy Foundation. Perfect medium coverage with a my-skin-but-better finish. I would put this up against ANY high-end foundation.

Oh, and I just found a new favorite setting powder. Milani Prep Set & Glow. It’s translucent, and doesn’t leave you flat matte like a lot of powders. So it won’t take away the pretty glow of your Healthy Foundation. 🙂

I’m a drugstore junkie, in case you couldn’t tell. I love all makeup, but I get my biggest thrills out of finding great inexpensive stuff. (I just can’t seem to find drugstore eyeshadow I like.)

    1. I will write these down! I probably didn’t streamline my Ipsy enough but I always got one product each month that was worth the $10. I agree on drugstore eyeshadow. Mine looks cheap and I think I will invest in like MAC bone or something. Any suggestions?

  4. How can you do you make up so fast!? I don’t know if I believe you, lol! You should share a more precise timing…, like mascara 33 seconds, lipstick 12 seconds…! I am so slow! Drives my husband crazy…! Summertime I only do concealer (cheap drugstore are the best! for sure!), mascara (still looking for a waterproof that is clump-free – any recommendation?) and a bright lipstick. I like natural looking foundation and just got a fantastic tester from macy’s: Estee Lauder double wear water fresh – try it! It’s buildable, which I think is perfect. It’s quite expensive, but I might invest in one.

    1. I don’t know! I seriously get ready faster than my husband. I have Estée Lauder double wear normal but it’s my cold weather foundation. I will look at the water fresh! I guess I could break it down by product. That would be interesting!

  5. This reminded me that I need to find a good moisturizer. I haven’t really used one in years because I just generally don’t need it and definitely didn’t need it when I used Unblemish by RF.

    1. I really like the TJs one and I always liked Eucerin a lot which you can get at the grocery – very light feeling!
